The winter in the San Francisco Bay Area often brings warm weather and an atmospheric inversion that holds hazy air close to the ground. At the same time, the sun is low and the colors of the landscape are curiously illuminated. For a painter like me, interested in the effects of light and color, this time of year is paradise!

In Mill Valley, at the base of Mt. Tamalpais, there are marshes filled with pickleweed that positively glows.
